About

What this site is and who keeps it running

One place where the world's disaster feeds are collected, read the same way, and published with what each source actually said.

The platform

Calamity.live is a real-time global disaster monitoring platform that aggregates, normalizes, and scores natural disaster events from scientific data sources. We cover 16 disaster types across every continent, delivering enriched event data with population impact analysis, cascade risk detection, and a proprietary Calamity Score.

Beside the events, the site publishes two readings of what has been recorded: a Forecast Index of activity per country and hazard, which is not a calibrated probability of an event, and a Country Rating from A to E of recorded activity. The methodology page explains both, with their limits.

Data sources

Scientific sources from every kind of watch

We read the public feeds of governmental agencies, intergovernmental organisations, research institutions and sensor networks. The table counts, for each hazard, the sources whose events were published in the 90 days to 2026-09-24; one source can serve more than one hazard, so the rows do not add up to the total.

Technology

Our pipeline processes events through 11 normalization stages, applies cross-source deduplication with representative-based clustering, and enriches each event with population impact estimates using a gaussian decay model. The Calamity Score (0-100) combines four components: intensity (40%), population impact (30%), cascade risk (20%), and historical context (10%).

For journalists & researchers

Calamity.live data is available for editorial and academic use. We provide programmatic access via our REST API and structured data exports.

Important: Calamity.live provides algorithmic aggregation of scientific monitoring data. It is not a replacement for official emergency alerts from your local authorities. Always follow guidance from your local emergency services.
